Another misconception and probably a crucial item as well is the street legality of the X18 Super Pocket Bikes. I had to dig this information from the CEO of the importer as well as do my own investigating with the United States Department of Transportation (DOT). The X18 Super Pocket Bike ships stock with headlights, blinkers, tail lights, and a horn. 2005, 2006, and 2007 model X18 Super Pocket Bikes have an EPA tag riveted on the right side of the neck of the frame and a Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS) tag on the left side. The 2008 model X18 Super Pocket Bikes DO NOT have the FMVSS tag anymore. This is due to stricter laws passed by the DOT that restrict the tag from being printed. For the past years, many X18 owners has been able to register their bikes at the local DMV’s and get them legal on the streets. The FMVSS tag made that registration process a lot easier for many customers, but now its gone. Registration also depends and varies upon the state you live in. They 2005, 2006, and 2007 models were “FMVSS” federally approved, but each state and county can still place its own limitations. Also depending on the state you live is the type of registration your can get for the X18 Super Pocket Bike. In some states, it’s required to be registered as a motorcycle because of its 110cc engine (larger than 49cc) where others it can be registered as a scooter. 2008 model owners do not despair. Despite the lack of the FMVSS tag, you can STILL get your bike on the road for street legal use. Many of my customers are still able to register their bikes bike providing pictures, details, engine specs, and installing rearview mirrors for their local Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV). Also, some DMV’s are not that diligent in their work and let these registrations slip by without a full inspection. I have customers who simply show a title and receive their license plate the next week, but if you plan to use your X18 for public commute, I highly encourage you to check with your local DMV first.
